Students with Learning Difficulties/Disabilities

General Policy
Bexley College supports the rights of students with learning difficulties/disabilities to attend the College and receive support as appropriate and feasible. Integration into mainstream courses will be encouraged wherever possible.

Please contact the Learning Needs Advisor on 01322 404126 for individual course access/availability.

What is Learning Difficulty?
A learning difficulty is any accepted and evidenced condition which could impact the learner’s ability to succeed on their chosen course. Learners with learning difficulties/disabilities may be entitled to additional support to that normally provided by the course. This includes learners on mainstream courses as well as learners on specific discrete courses for students with learning difficulty.

Wheelchair User Information
Wheelchair access is possible in all courses. The Tower Road campus has ramp access into the main tower and the phase one building.  There is also a bridge connection between the disabled parking area and the tower.   There is lift access to all floors in both buildings except the ninth floor of the tower.

Accessible Toilets
Tower Road campus has two accessible toilets, in the main tower and in the phase one building. Further facilities are being developed.

Students with Hearing Impairment
The learning needs of the hearing impaired learner/visually impaired learner are considered on an individual basis.  If you would like to discuss your needs then please contact the Learning Needs Advisor on 01322 404126.

Dyslexia Support
An on-site dyslexia specialist can provide a full assessment for those learners with dyslexia or who have been referred by teaching staff.  This is complemented by specialist support with literacy skills and, where appropriate, concessions for examinations.

Specialist Staff
Bexley College has a dedicated staff team who hold specialist qualifications in the areas of learning difficulty and learner support.

Parking
If you have a disability or mobility problem and hold a blue badge we will make free parking available. Places near to all buildings can be reserved for you. We have spaces at both our Tower Road and Holly Hill campuses.
