This is a new and extremely popular pathway to an exciting but challenging career, so apply early. The pathway is designed for those aged 19 or over who are interested in entering the social work profession; for example, as a front-line Social worker working with diverse client groups, within a team specialising with children or adults or in a different setting such as hospitals or community.
No formal qualification is required but there is a need to demonstrate a genuine commitment to this type of study. Students need to have an emotional stamina and demonstrate that they have the appropriate attitudes and ability necessary to support a variety of clients. There will be compulsory initial assessments in English and Maths. Experience of direct contact with people in a paid or voluntary role would be helpful. We make the pathway assessments as supportive as possible. The forms of assessment will cover those found in university, which will be mainly continual assessment with some exams.
